Wicklow Community Biodiversity Training

County Wicklow Partnership and the Heritage Office of Wicklow County Council are delighted to offer this FREE training course for community groups across County Wicklow!

This course is being offered to any group. or collection of groups, that are interested in making their community and local area more biodiversity friendly.

This training will be delivered by Faith Wilson, Ecologist in collaboration with Dick Coombes, Ornithologist and Prof Ken Whelan, Fisheries biologist so there will be a wide ranging set of skills to help every type of community across Wicklow to identify and improve the biodiversity features unique to their local area.

The course will upskill and teach volunteers about how to protect and enhance the biodiversity in their local areas and also give them a plan on completion to help support long term improvement of your areas biodiversity.

We would like to hear from all sorts of organisations and groups across County Wicklow! This can include tidy towns groups, community development groups, Men’s Sheds, Sporting Groups, Residents Associations, Youth Groups and any other interested groups who are looking to improve their local biodiversity!

Please fill in this short form to tell us more about your group and what your needs are locally

Click here to fill out online expression of interest form

The deadline for receipt of expressions of interest is March 12th at 14:00.

We are aiming to work on 10 plans across Wicklow. On receipt of expressions of interest, we will seek to cluster some organisations together if for example there are multiple submissions from the one town or village to ensure that as many groups as possible can be included.

We may not be able to include all interested groups in the final programme.

We will require participation from each interested group in training sessions and in the planning exercise so please ensure that your volunteers can dedicate time to this programme. A Certificate of Attendance will be provided by the Tutors to those who complete the programme.

We anticipate this programme beginning in May 2021. How the delivery of the training will be done will depend on what ever Covid 19 restrictions will be in place at that time. Training will be delivered at times to suit the participating groups.

Please feel free to share this information with any other groups you may know of that could be interested in participating in this exciting training programme!
